Hi Everyone,
Just received this news article:
Concert donated by Ainscough raises £80,000
A charity concert featuring Katie Melua and Aled Jones — whose performances were donated by businessman Martin Ainscough — raised £80,000 for the Prince’s Trust.
Ainscough, who sold his crane hire business for £255m last year — paid £250,000 to secure their services during a “money can’t buy” auction for Children in Need last year.
The concert took place at Davenport Green Hall in Hale on Tuesday night.
Ainscough is vice chair of the Trust’s North West Leadership Group, which brings together business leaders from across the region to promote employment and training opportunities for disadvantaged young people.
He said; “It’s fantastic that the event could be used to benefit such a terrific cause as the Prince’s Trust, and help Children in Need at the same time. I am privileged to be able support causes close to my heart and my role with the North West Leadership Group has enabled me to combine my passion for business with my admiration for the work the Trust does.”
In an auction, guests put in bids for a handmade guitar, signed by Katie Melua herself, two centre court tickets to this year’s Wimbledon and a private gourmet break at Blackburn’s Northcote Manor.
The guitar, donated by Dawsons Music, went for £12,500 and Ainscough purchased two extra guitars for the auction which Melua and Jones signed. But the winner of the third guitar got more than expected with Jones donating a day as a guest at his Good Morning Sunday show on Radio 2.
Guests also entered a raffle with prizes including a horse and carriage country picnic for four donated by Horse Drawn Carriages and a £3,000 18ct white gold and diamonds “Roulette” necklace, donated by Boodles.
The money will go toward helping young people like former armed forces photographer Anthony Parr, who launched his own photographic studio in St. Helens with his redundancy payout and a business start-up grant from the Trust.
The event was hosted by the charity’s North West Leadership Group, and attracted some of the region’s most high-profile business leaders, Trust supporters and celebrity ambassadors, including Coronation Street’s William Roach and Antony Cotton, BBC’s Gordon Burns, Hollyoaks’ actress Sarah Jane Buckley and ex-England rugby star Chris Joynt. Other Coronation Street cast in attendance included Jenny McAlpine, Samia Smith and Vicky Binns.
