    Aled's Treble career

It is well-documented that Aled began his incredible professional career as an exquisitely-voiced treble at the age of 12, singing firstly at age 9 as a chorister in Bangor Cathedral, where he was fortuitously launched into his recording career at 12 yrs by the generous actions of a parishioner, Hefina Orwig Evans, who wanted his exceptional voice preserved for all time, so contacted Sain Recordings in Wales.

Aled's legendary boyhood performing and recording career spanned 4 years until his 16th birthday, when his voice broke. By then, he had delighted music-lovers the world over with a remarkable16 beautiful albums, selling 6 million records! Justifiably, he was hailed the world's greatest boy treble.

Credits to his name and talents include performances for the Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales (a private recital at Kensington Palace), the Pope, and at the wedding of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates.

16 year old Aled announcing his 'retirement'

With many, many thanks to Carol for discovering this clip, there is a fabulous video posted on Youtube just days ago, of Aled as a 16 year old, as he announces his 'retirement' from his treble career.

What a fabulous piece of archival history!

Enormous thanks too of course, to 'BobGlasby', who posted the treasured clip!

It's fascinating to see that it's Sally Magnussen who is interviewing Aled. I wonder if Aled imagined that day that he and Sally would be colleagues both presenting Songs of Praise all these years later? Sally also sat in for Aled on GMS when he was here in Australia on his tour in August 2006.

It was lovely to watch this video. Aled's attitude hasn't changed and its good to see that he's achieved what he wanted to do.

Re: 16 year old Aled announcing his 'retirement'

Last night I contacted Bob Glasby, the man who so kindly posted that fabulous interview with Aled on Youtube, to thank him for sharing it with us, and asked where he managed to find it.

This morning I received a lovely reply from him, part of which I've added here.....

    Hello, Susie,

Good to hear from you.  I'm really pleased I have been able to find that clip.  I recorded it quite by accident live from the television one morning back in 1987 I think!    I was experimenting with my new video recorder.  I'd no idea Aled was going to be interviewed:  it was pure chance.

I have followed his career as a boy.  I also have the hour long programme from 1985 entitled 'The Treble'  I expect you have seen that but if not and you think it worth putting highlights onto Youtube, I could do it.

    I'm still working -- at age 79!!

    What a lovely man!

    "Voice of An Angel"

Another treble album for Aled is listed on Amazon for release, this one for 11 August 2008. It's on Metro label and the cover picture on Amazon lists some of the tracks as being Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus, Bridge Over Troubled Water, O Holy Night, The Lord's Prayer, and O For the Wings of a Dove.

    Re: "Voice of An Angel"

so this is just a sort of 'best of - the treble years' compilation? (I thought they already did one back in the day)

I was kind of hoping for a new studio album in terms of album release...Indifferent oh well.

    Re: "Voice of An Angel"

Yes, that's what it seems to be Karen. It's very similar to "Hear My Prayer" that Sain released in 2003, and having gone through the tracklistings of both, twelve tracks on 'Hear My Prayer' are also on the 'Voice of An Angel' album.

I hope that it may inspire listeners of Aled's treble music to explore further into his brilliant baritone talents, but I'm equally hoping that Aled receives the royalties from these sorts of 'new' releases that pop up from time to time.
