Press Release
17 June 2008
ARE YOU ALED'S BIGGEST FAN...?
Are you nuts about Aled Jones? Have you been to all his shows? Do you have all his records? Is his photograph on the wall of your home? If so, Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) would love to hear from you.
Aled is about to begin one of the most daunting tasks of his professional career. He's starring in an eight-week run of the fantasmagorical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at WMC.
The musical opens on 3 July 2008, and WMC are offering four free tickets to anyone who can positively prove they've Aled's biggest fan. The winning entrant, selected by Aled himself, will get to see the show and meet the Bangor-born star.
Aled said, "I'm really grateful for all the support I get wherever I go. I wouldn't be working in showbiz if it were not for the people who've watched my shows and bought my records over the years. Knowing that there is a group of die-hard fans out there who follow you're every move is very flattering – and it's great to get an opportunity to meet genuine fans."
Bet Davies, Communications Director at WMC, said, "We know there are lots of dedicated Aled fans out there. A lot of his fans have followed his career since he recorded `Walking in the Air' in the mid-1980s. It would be great to discover the real extent of his fan base across Wales and beyond."
One of Aled's biggest fans is Susie Veale, from Sydney, Australia, who sadly can't make it to see Chitty in Cardiff. Susie co-runs the unofficial Aled Jones Fan Club – and describes her interest in all things Aled simply as "Aleding".
"Aled is one of life's very rare gifts," said Susie. "He has a mesmerising voice like no other, and is a man who is totally natural and down-to-earth, with an immense capacity for compassion, and an open heart that genuinely listens and cares for people."
WMC wants fans to explain, in not more than 200 words, why they are Aled's biggest fan. Aled's relatives, personal friends and acquaintances are not eligible to enter!
Entries can be emailed to press.office@wmc.org.uk or sent by post to Nia Jones, Press Office, Wales Millennium Centre, Bute Place, Cardiff. CF10 5AL. A name, address and daytime telephone number must be included.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the biggest West End musical to come to both Wales and to WMC. It features a cast of 35 actors, dancers and singers. Aled plays crackpot inventor Caractacus Potts. Alongside him are two other Welsh stars: Anglesey's Tony Adams and Celebrity Big Brother survivor Ian `H' Watkins, born in the Rhondda.
