    Father And Son

Just want to say how brilliant Aled's version of 'Father And Son' is. I saw the video on what was formally ClassicFm TV (Now Omusic, but they play it regular on there too). It has to be the best version I've heard.Smile

I could post the original on here if you want, I think its on Youtube.

I suppose to some, the Cat Stevens version would be the definite version because it was the original and he wrote it. When I listen to Aled's version I hear the talent of both men; Yusuf's lyrics and Aled's delivery of them. The less said about the Boyzone version the better but the version Yusuf sang with Ronan Keating was quite good. But Aled's voice and the new guitar arrangment can't be beaten.

I very much agree with you Jon and Lesley. Cat Stevens would probably be the definitive version for many people, but to my mind, Aled gives a very special touch to the song. He created a deeper sincerity and a mellowness that isn't as prominent in the original, much like the contrast between his version of  'For Once In My Life'  with Stevie Wonder's original, although in the latter song, I think the contrast there is even more dramatic, with Aled's being more touching and romantic.

Aled interprets music so beautifully, and it's the velvety tone in his voice that gives the uniqueness in his songs for me.

Hi Susie ...Great Link thanks for sharing that. A lovely softness regarding Aled's cover of 'For Once In My Life' beautifully handled. Susie Instead of saying the words Aled Jones have you adopted the words "Oh Lovely" with video's like this? I'm expecting to hear a "YES" ? LOL

Been reading my mind, eh Andy?? Wink Yes, 'For Once In My Life' really is lovely, isn't it? A completely different song I think to Stevie's version....Aled has very much made it his own.

Aled gives the gold medal treatment to 'All My Trials Lord' too. I was browsing on Youtube and came upon a live version of Paul McCartney's, which I surprisingly found to be very forgettable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOQeWGYHXuU.  Aled's interpretation is vastly superior in my view.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4ZDwbqF3u4

Hi Susie ..I gave the 2 YouTube video's an A / B comparison you kindly shared and your right Aled has outshone the masterful Macca on this occasion! I'm always listening to so much Radio on Sunday's but I really should set the video for Songs Of Praise if I'm missing highlights like this? They are very different versions of 'All My Trails Lord' but with the gentler sparser arrangement and Aled's crystal clear vocal the true meaning of the song comes through? Having said that it was nice to remember the old Wings line-up with the lovely Linda, Hamish Stuart and Robbie McIntosh on hand. Paul's delivery didn't really grab my attention either?
